Abstract
Judge Maurice Portley received his B.S. from Arizona State University, graduating in 1975, and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1978. Portley started his legal career in 1978 as an attorney with the Law Offices of Gary W. Ramaeker. In 1979, he joined the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps as a judge advocate general. In 1984, he became a partner at the law firm of Jennings, Strouss & Salmon in Phoenix, Arizona. While with the firm, he also served as presiding judge in the Southeast District and then Juvenile Court. In 1991, Portley was appointed to the Maricopa County Superior Court. In 2003, after three terms on the Maricopa County Superior Court, Portley was appointed to the Arizona Court of Appeals. Judge Portley retired on August 31, 2016.
